Mount Kisco Small Businesses Supporting Each Other When It Matters Most

What started as an emergency turned into one of those moments that reminds us how supportive our community can be.

A dog arrived with a metal car harness sprung latch that had penetrated the skin between digits on his paw pad and become stuck. He came in painful, frightened, and panicked. His owner called ahead while nearby, and our team immediately told them to come straight in.

After examination, it became clear there was no safe way to remove the clip without cutting it off.

That’s when Caroline from our team ran across the street to Mount Kisco Supply to explain the situation and see if they had something strong enough to cut it safely.

While she was explaining what was going on, Andrew overheard the conversation and immediately said:

“Say no more, I’ll bring every option.”

The Style Harness Clip That Caused the Paw Injury

Andrew grabbed a selection of sheers, pliers and cutters and drove over so we could find the safest tool for the job.

By the time he arrived, Dr. Lindsey Thomas, Dr. Valerie Carril, the team, and even two local high school work-experience students were all working together around the treatment table. The dog had been safely sedated and was much calmer.

Andrew quickly identified the best tool for the situation, opened it up for us, and even offered to gift it to the hospital. (We happily paid for it.)

The team was able to carefully cut through the spring clip and release the latch, remove it from the paw, and thoroughly clean and flush the wound.

Thankfully, the dog is doing great.

“Home Depot isn’t doing that. Andrew immediately understood exactly what we needed and how to help. We’re incredibly lucky to have such great small business neighbors nearby. This is what supporting local businesses is all about — helping each other when it matters.”
Dr. Lindsey Thomas reflected afterward

“Andrew was fantastic. The dog is doing great, made a bunch of new friends, got a few treats, and a lot of love.”
Dr. Valerie Carril added

Yesterday was a really good reminder of that. : Veterinary medicine is never just about medicine. Sometimes it’s teamwork, quick thinking, kindness, community connections, and people showing up for each other without hesitation.

The owner later told us:

“The team was amazing. This would have cost a fortune at an emergency hospital.”
